THE HISTORY OP KSTT^ PALLS BAPTIST COMMUNITY CHURCH This Is a hl3tory of our Inheritance of a little ^aptist Church, which God blessed 70 years ago and would not let it be o*es*rcycd. Although it was des¬ tined to be tried by fire, the Great iteprescion, and lastly flooding of the town and community of old Kettle Falls by the back waters of uoulee -"Jam, it could not be destroyed and we are happy that we can 3erve God in that Church here today. A3 we turn the history pages back 70 year3 to February 1008, we read where a few Baptists living in old Kettle Falls decided there was need of a distinctive Baptist Church to serve their Community. On the afternoon of March 22, 1908, they met in the Presbyterian Church and took preliminary steps for the organization of this Church. March 27, 1908 in a meeting held in Pish's Hall, the organization of the first Baptist Church of Kettle Palis was completed. Charter members of the Church were: Mr, and Mrs. W. D. Lee, Mr. and Mrs. M, L# Morton, Mr. Potts, Mr, and Mrs. •"', K. Kolcomb and Arthur Holcorab. Rev. 0. S, Treadwell, who was instrumental in the organization of the Church, was our first Pastor, P. H, Kolcomb was elected Sunday School Superintendent, as a Sunday School was immediately organized. Services were held in Pish's Hall for a time, then in a store building rented from the Atwood brothers. The upper floor served as a parsonage and the lower floor for Sunday School and Church services. Furniture was the benches made by the Brethera. song books and ininday School supplies for the first three months were donated by the Baptist Publishing Society. Airing 1900 work was started for the new Church Building. Some of the Brethem of the Church cut tall trees on Mingo Mountain, skidded by horse team to a saw mill where they were cut into rafters and studs for the Church building. November 1st, 1909 &ev» Treadwell resigned and on December 1, 1909 Rev, Hupp, who was paator of the Baptist Church in Moscow accepted their call and became their second Pastor. The year of 1910 was a busy year for Rev. Hupp. He not only supervised the building of the Church in Kettle Pells, but organized and constructed a Church in Marcus, i>jxing the construction of the Kettle Palls Church work Bees were held. Some men came from as far as 15 miles to help with the work. Ladies of the Church served dinner on each work Bee day. As it was written in older times "People had a mind to work," The work on this church was started March of 1910, The Mareus Church was dedicated October 16, 1910, and the Kettle Falls Church October 23, 1910 at a cost of ¥2*00,00.
