Description	Marjorie Rose Stanley came to Vashon Island in 1902 with her parents. As a community librarian, she found it difficult to satisfy the frequent requests for information about Vashon's history. Over her lifetime, she collected photographs and historical materials, which were used in the writing of Search for Laughter. The manuscript describes Stanley's reminiscences of early days at Burton and other Island communities. It covers events up until its serialization in the Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber in 1967, including the 1948 "ferry fight" when irate commuters took over operation of the ferry system for 18 months. Rather than being a comprehensive history of Vashon Island, Search for Laughter describes the personalities, memorable incidents and many humorous stories of Vashon's peoples and animals, through the eyes of a woman who witnessed 79 years of local history.
